Every mission starts immediately, focusing on a simple action tied to moving through the ocean.

Swimming controls drive the entire journey, letting each character glide, dash, or turn through coral paths, open water, and tight caves. Tasks vary depending on who is selected. Nemo slips through narrow gaps, Marlin performs quick turns to dodge hazards, and Dory handles simple memory-based objectives. Some missions include gathering shells, guiding lost fish, or reaching a marked location while avoiding threats like jellyfish or sharp coral. Mini-challenges appear on certain maps, requiring fast swimming or accurate movement to complete the objective. Each completed task unlocks the next route.

As new zones open, the ocean expands with busier areas, stronger currents, and missions that demand cleaner timing. Additional minigames based on the movie include short races, item hunts, and simple reaction challenges. Characters gain small improvements after finishing tasks, allowing smoother movement in later areas. Brief dialogue pieces explain who needs help next or where the group must travel to stay safe. The adventure ends once every mission is complete and the group successfully reaches the reef, closing the journey with all escaped fish reunited.
