Baldi’s Basics begins in a simple school where your character arrives to pick up notebooks for a friend. At first, everything looks normal. The halls are quiet, the classrooms are small, and Baldi greets you with a smile that feels a bit strange. After you collect the first notebook, the mood of the school changes. Baldi becomes more active, and you realise he is now following you. The rest of the school has locked doors, long hallways, and odd characters who behave in ways that make the place feel slightly tense.

The gameplay is very easy to understand. You move through the school, open doors, and look for notebooks hidden in different rooms. Each time you collect one, Baldi becomes faster, so you need to find paths that keep you ahead of him. Some rooms have tools like sodas or alarms that help you slow him down or escape when he gets too close. Other characters walk around the school and can help you or cause trouble. One might push you forward, another may block your way, and a few will stop you unless you follow simple rules. The controls are light, with walking, running, and picking up items being the main actions.

As you explore more of the school, the halls start to feel like a puzzle. You learn which routes are safe, which corners to avoid, and how to use each item at the right time. Running is helpful, but you must be careful, because certain characters will catch you if they see you doing it. The game stays short, simple, and full of small surprises.
